About Me
My work as the Vice Chair of the Grand Isle Select Board made me realize that Grand Isle County needs more representation in Montpelier.
As our State Representative, I will stay on the Select Board until my term ends in 2025, building a stronger connection between state resources and our community.
I'm also on the Development Review Board and that has really taught me about responsible growth. I got involved with the DRB when Lake Champlain Transportation wanted to build a 29,000sf maintenance facility. Through attending all of the meetings for this, I learned firsthand how important citizen voices are in effective government.
I'm a volunteer and Board member of the Champlain Islands Food Shelf. I am passionate about addressing the issues that surround food insecurity in Grand Isle and West Milton. We have clients from all over Grand Isle and Franklin county who come once a week for groceries. I have seen firsthand the struggles of the working poor. Many food shelf clients say, "I'm one car repair away from being homeless." More needs to be done to help all Vermonters not fall through the cracks.
I care deeply about connecting with people. A State Representative needs to be responsive to her constituents. I do not have all the answers on complex issues, there's no way I could. My love of learning and natural curiosity helps me seek out those who are experts and those who are most affected, so I can make the best decisions for our district.
I came to Vermont in 1996 and opened an independent bookstore, The Flying Pig, in Charlotte with Elizabeth Bluemle. While living in Charlotte I was on the Planning Commission and a member and then chief of the volunteer rescue squad from 2000-2006. Connection to my community has always been something I'm passionate about.
I am an award-winning stand up comic and storyteller. I also taught stand up comedy through the FlynnArts program for 12 years, teaching over 300 people how to write and perform their own stand up routines. During that time I also taught stand up at the Chittenden County Correctional Facility and the Northwest State Correctional Facility for two years. One of things I loved about teaching was seeing people find their voice.
